National City, CA—In memory and in honor of Operation Samahan’s dearly beloved long-time Board member, the family and relatives of the deceased Perla Torres  designated a cancer prevention fund for Samahan Clinic. The fund will be used for the clinic’s ongoing effort to provide community awareness and education as well as early prevention cancer detection and treatment services.

Perla Torres died of lung cancer last March 4th, 2009 at 9:45 pm. Perla will always be remembered as the quiet force behind Samahan Clinic. She was an active Board member for over 25 years and was highly instrumental in helping establish the clinic.

Operation Samahan gives Perla Torres its highest tribute for her dedication and commitment in serving Samahan Clinic and the Filipino community in San Diego.  She has left us all a beautiful legacy of excellence on community volunteerism and servitude. The Perla Torres Cancer Prevention Fund aims to keep those ideals alive and commemorates Perla Torres’ deep involvement with Samahan and the community that the clinic serves.
