On October 23 from 12 — 3 p.m., the Lincoln Acres Branch of San Diego County Library, 2725 Granger Ave, is hosting the third annual Celebration of Life. This community event honors the memory of the late José Luis Rodriguez, a library staff member that was murdered in 2007.
The Celebration of Life includes all-ages entertainment with the Boys and Girls Club Ballet Folklorico, Risa the Musical Clown, and the National City Polynesian Dancers. The afternoon will also feature a free luncheon, craft/information booths, free health screenings courtesy of Operation Samahan, face painting, caricatures, and balloon animals. County Supervisor Greg Cox will be announcing the two winners of the $500 José Luis Rodriguez Scholarship, a program supported by the Friends of the Lincoln Acres Library to help local students attend college. Branch Manager José Ocadiz hopes “everyone will come out to the library and celebrate the life of José Luis Rodriguez by enjoying this quality time with friends, family, and the community of Lincoln Acres.”
Operation Samahan will be a key participant during this event and will provide health screening and health education services.
